Do you ever feel 'forced' to buy water in plastic bottles to rehydrate yourself.....
In the coming months, locals and visitors to Oban alike will also be able to access beautiful cool, fresh, healthy Scottish water from public water fountains.
Did you know you can refill your own re-useable water bottle from various refill stations in town kindly offered by local businesses. Some have already joined 'Refill' and you can look out for the blue logo as more establishments already offering free refills join the scheme too. www.refill.org.uk More soon....
This campaign by Surfers Against Sewage (SAS) aims to help communities to reduce their use of single-use plastic (SUP) items such as coffee cups, straws, cutlery and more 'on-the-go' items as well as other avoidable plastics.
Earlier in the year Oban (and also Dunbeg) joined many other communities in the UK (and a few international places) in working towards achieving this Plastic Free Community status.

A number of towns have already been awarded the Plastic Free Community status and are continuing on with the mission to eventually be completely free of single-use items.
Building on the existing work in our town we are pleased to say that we are well on our way to meeting the initial criteria for a 'Plastic Free Oban'. A number of local businesses are being awarded their 'Plastic Free Champion' badges and schools can add to their existing activities by joining the 'Plastic Free Schools' programme.
We will be adding more information soon but if you would like to find out more in the meantime please see

We are working on the installation of water fountains in the town and becoming a single-use Plastic Free Community
